Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has announced that the government will pay for the medical expenses of the victims of the Maimahiu flash floods.

While speaking to the press in Mombasa, Mwaura revealed that 73 people were injured in the incident and were sent to neighboring hospitals.

"All their hospital bills will be paid by the government in the spirit of solidarity," he said.

Mwaura stated that the floods impacted Nairobi county the hardest, with 147,000 displaced, accounting for 77% of all displaced persons in the country. The government has set up 52 displacement camps to house affected individuals.

According to official reports, the flash floods were caused by a clogged railway line tunnel, which prevented the correct water flow via the River Tongi, leading it to burst.

Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua reported that 71 individuals had been verified deceased as of Tuesday morning, leaving 28 persons unaccounted for.
