According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), the Athi River—Namanga Road is immediately closed because of significant flooding in the Kimalat area caused by heavy rainfall.

In a statement, KENHA added that nearby alternate routes have also been flooded and advised drivers not to attempt to use the road at this time.

On Tuesday night, heavy rains battered most of Nairobi and its surrounding counties, and the Kimalat River burst its banks, causing flooding.

Rest assured, KENHA is diligently monitoring the water levels and will promptly advise when the situation improves.

Moreover, the intense rain caused flooding in the Kitengela area, trapping locals and marooning their homes.

In a testament to the resilience of our community, the Kenya Road Cross swiftly responded to the flooding, aiding those who were stranded and saving six lives.

Additionally, due to flooding, KENHA has announced the partial closure of several Nairobi and Kiambu County roads.

The routes in question are Thika Bypass, Eastern Bypass, and Enterprise Road. Drivers on the heavily traveled Thika superhighway near Kenyatta University were forced to find alternate routes when the road was flooded.

Raila Odinga Road (formerly Mbagathi Way) was flooded on Wednesday morning, and users were cautioned to use alternative routes.
