Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lt Gen Charles Muriu Kahariri has been elevated to the rank of general and appointed as the Chief Defence Forces.

He takes over from his predecessor Gen Francis Ogolla, who tragically passed away in a helicopter accident.

Maj Gen John Omenda, the Kenya Airforce commander, has been promoted and appointed as the new VCDF.

Maj Gen Fatuma Ahmed has been appointed as the new commander of the Kenya Airforce, succeeding Maj Gen Omenda. Prior to her appointment, she served as a senior Directing Staff Air at the National Defence College.

This decision was made during a meeting of the Defense Council chaired by Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

 Previously, he served as the deputy commander of the Kenya Navy before being promoted and transferred to the defense college.

In a move aimed at regional balancing, Paul Otieno, Managing Director of Kenya Shipyards Limited, has been appointed as the new commander of the Kenya Navy, replacing Maj Gen Thomas Nganga, who held the position for only a month. Maj Gen Nganga has been reassigned to the National Defence University as the Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance.

Additionally, Brig Peter Githinji has been promoted to the rank of Maj Gen and appointed as a senior directing staff member at the National Defence College. Brig George Okumu has also been promoted to Maj Gen and named as the Managing Director of the Kenya Ordinance Factories Corporation and Food Processing Factory. Lastly, Brig Samuel Kipkorir has been appointed as the deputy commander of the Kenya Air Force.
