The chief of Kitui County's Miamabani location is recovering from arrow wounds sustained in an altercation with a man whose homestead he raided on suspicion of selling marijuana, or "bhang."

After learning from locals that Simon Nziu had been supplying drugs to young people in the Kayongo area, Muthoka Kilonzo visited Nziu's homestead on Tuesday night with the assistant chief of the area.

The administrators caught Nziu with about 50 kg of marijuana. He then got away and returned with a bow and arrows, shooting the chief in the arm and leg.

"He came back with his brother carrying a bow, arrows and machete," Kilonzo said, adding that he was treated at a nearby medical facility and discharged.

A search is underway for the man said to be in his 30s.
