The investigation into the death of Albert Ojwang has taken a shocking turn after a Nairobi-based technician revealed alarming details implicating a female police officer in an alleged cover-up.
Kelvin Mutisya Matava, the technician responsible for installing the CCTV system at Central Police Station, was arrested on Friday after admitting he was paid to erase crucial surveillance footage from the night Ojwang died in custody. Matava claimed he was summoned on June 8 by a female officer who instructed him to delete specific clips. When he explained that selective deletion wasn’t possible, she allegedly ordered him to format the entire hard drive. He complied and was paid KSh 3,000 by the Officer Commanding Station.
The officer later contacted him repeatedly, asking him to return with a new hard drive and to avoid wearing anything identifying him as a technician. Upon his return, he discovered the DVR had already been tampered with.

Fearing exposure, especially after reports of Ojwang’s death began surfacing online, Matava opted to send a colleague instead. He also revealed that the female officer told him his number had been given to IPOA investigators.
This startling confession has intensified the spotlight on the female officer, as authorities now suspect a coordinated effort to conceal the real events leading to Ojwang’s death. IPOA has already arrested two officers, with more expected to be implicated as the investigation deepens.
