The Interior Ministry has announced that police officers will be fired and face legal action if they are found to have contributed to the death of any Kenyan through their actions or inaction in the fight against illicit alcohol.

On Monday at the Mombasa ASK Showground, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki stated that no officer found guilty would be moved to a different jurisdiction.

He attended a meeting with other local leaders to discuss ways to ruthlessly target those who produce, transport, sell, and pedal illicit spirits, narcotic drugs, and other substances in the Coast Region.

"As a policy, security officers and administrators enabling the manufacture, sale and use of killer brews and hard drugs, through their action and/or inaction will not be transferred to other jurisdictions," CS Kindiki said

"They will be sacked immediately and prosecuted in accordance with the law."

At the same time, CS Kindiki stated that the government would reward diligent officers who combat the menace with state honors and promotions.

"Diligent and patriotic Security and National Government Administration officers who unearth, thwart and apprehend persons behind the trade in illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs will be recognised and appreciated by the Government through promotion and award of State honours," he said.

In light of the recent deaths of 17 people in Kirinyaga due to the illicit alcohol epidemic in some parts of Central Kenya, CS Kithure emphasized the need for a crackdown on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, describing them as a threat to national security and Kenya's survival.
